This is a design for the 35th anniversary of the book; The Sorrow of Belgium, written by Hugo Claus.

CONCEPT

Toujours sourire; (‘Whatever happens, always keep laughing!’)
Commenting on the motto and the profession of the writer I would like to suggest what is happening in Louis’s life.
By using different punctuation marks on the cover I want to make clear how confusion, craving, and deceit affect Louis and how he tries with all his might to find clarity in all the falsehood around him. Only by fantasizing, giving reality violence, he can survive.
